Habitat: Near wetlands or humid areas, 300-1,500 m above sea level.

Characteristics: Large shrub, 3-17 m tall; branched aerial roots; leaves dark green, sharp-curved prickles on margin and midrib; inflorescences, cone-like, compound; flowers, golden-yellow; fruit, drupe, orange-red when ripe, fleshy, 5-6 angled.

Spot character: Long leaves with spiny in the edge

Benefit: Medicinal plant and handicrafts.

Habitat: Coastal areas, mangrove margins and beaches, up to 610 m above sea level

Characteristics: Slender tree, up to 18 m tall; trunk, single, spiny, forks at height of 4-8 m, with prop roots; leaves, bluish-green, spirally-arranged in 3 ranks, fibrous, pendant above the middle with white spines, saw-like margin; flowers, produced on separate male and female plants; male inflorescences, cylindrical spikes, 8-10 cm long, 3-4 cm in diameter; male flowers, small, fragrant, short-lived; female inflorescences, pineapple-like; infructescences, ovoid, ellipsoid, sub-globose or globose, with 38-200 wedge-like fruitlets, orange to red when ripe; seeds, 2 per fruitlet ,
